    Building a Tea Ritual Journal Practice

    The journal became my evidence. In my own handwriting.

    The science behind writing and health

    James Pennebaker’s foundational research and over 200 subsequent studies have documented that structured expressive writing produces measurable improvements in immune function (increased T-lymphocyte counts), reduced sick days, improved mood, and reduction in chronic stress activation. Writing processes experience. Unprocessed experience keeps your nervous system in chronic low-level activation. The journal completes the circuit.

    A body-awareness journal also develops interoceptive awareness — the ability to accurately read your body’s signals. Research confirms that higher interoceptive awareness correlates with better health decisions, higher wellbeing, and faster recovery from illness.

    The three-touch method

    • Before the ritual (2 minutes): How does my body feel? What is it asking for? What am I holding today?
    • During the ritual: Be present. Journal closed. This is the practice.
    • After the ritual (3 to 5 minutes): What did I notice? What is my intention for the next few hours? What is my body still asking for?
    • Weekly (Sundays): Which herbs did I use consistently? What changes did I notice? What adjustment do I want to make?
    • Monthly (new moon): Read back through the month. Find patterns. Become your own herbalist.
