    Moon Phase Tea Rituals

    Module 816-18 min

I want to address something directly before we begin this lesson.

Some of you have been raised in religious traditions that may feel uncomfortable with the language of moon phases, cycles, and ritual. I want to honor that. And I want to offer a reframe.

The moon’s gravitational effect on water is not spiritual belief. It is physics. The same gravitational force that produces the ocean tides — which rise and fall with mathematical precision tied to lunar position — acts on every body of water on earth. Including the 60 percent water that constitutes your body.

Aligning your herbal practice with the lunar cycle is not worship. It is attunement. It is paying attention to a rhythm that has been influencing your body and your ancestors’ bodies for as long as there have been bodies on earth.

The science of lunar biological effects

A 2013 study at the University of Basel measured sleep in a controlled laboratory with no windows and found that during the full moon period, deep sleep decreased 30%, total sleep decreased 20 minutes, and melatonin was significantly lower — with no conscious awareness of the lunar phase by subjects. A 2021 meta-analysis confirmed these patterns across indigenous Argentinian communities, US suburban populations, and urban populations.

This is not mystical. This is biology responding to its oldest timekeeper.

The four phases and your herbs

New Moon — Plant and intend.

Energy is inward. Begin new practices. Herb: Moringa. Write your health intentions for the cycle. Brew Moringa tea as a ritual of commitment.

Waxing Moon — Build and act.

Energy is rising. Take action on intentions. Herbs: Moringa and Man Power Powder. This is the phase for high-demand physical and mental work. Your energizing herbs support you.

Full Moon — Release and cleanse.

Energy peaks and turns. Sleep is lighter (confirmed by research). Emotions are heightened. Herb: SourSop at double strength. This is the most powerful time for deep cleansing. Brew strong SourSop tea. Write what you are releasing. Drink as a ritual of release.

Waning Moon — Rest and integrate.

Energy declines toward the next new moon. The body’s natural eliminative impulse is heightened. Herbs: Burdock Root and Life Force Harmony. Support your liver. Rest more. Integrate what was experienced during the active phases.

    The minimum practice:

At every full moon: brew a cup of SourSop tea with intention. Write what you are releasing. Drink it slowly. This one practice, done monthly for six months, will teach you more about your body’s relationship with the lunar cycle than any lesson I could give.
